Thalai Deepavali post

It has been a pretty hectic week or so culminating in Deepavali this Thursday.......So what have we been upto?

Last Friday we were invited to the launch of a new range of IWC watches at the Mandarin Oriental, it was definitely one of the best parties Ive been to in KL...... here are the photos

Ronan Keating (ex-Boyzone) all the way from Dublin was the surprise entertainment, people got pretty excited when he started singing that song, when you say nothing at all from Notting Hill....well almost everyone, my dear wife didnt know who Ronan Keating was, and was looking for a comfortable chair to sit on since she was tired!! Nonetheless we had a fabulous time, even the food was great!

The after party party was at 7atenine at the ascott with some friends....

Last Saturday, we had a pre-Deepavali/wedding photo viewing, dinner at our house for a couple of my dad's friends.

On Monday we ventured on to the streets of Brickfields, which really has become little India in Malaysia....there were rows and rows of shops all over the place, very carnival like.....

A good friend of mine, Suresh of TBC (The Bombay Connection) making a sale?

Our Deepavali was very very relaxed this year. Our neighbour came over for breakfast in the morning before we headed of to the temple. We had lunch at my dad's friends house. We then went to the new mall thats just opened near our house, Gardens. We ended the day by eating some excellent Chinese vegetarian food at Nature's in Bangsar.

Very nice photo of us at the dining table taken single handedly by yours truly....

Last night we went to an old family friends house, played with fireworks with their grandkids...we all then went to watch a Tamil movie Azhagiya Tamil Magan. Once you accept that its a Tamil movie, and expect that the story is going to be a little silly you'll enjoy it. This movie was all about entertainment, funny and nice and light to watch, ie no usual melo drama of somebody hitting their head against the wall and crying! Its definitely not a must see, but its a "could" see, gets 3 out of 5 stars from me.

Alagu's post

Two Friday's ago we had special guests. And who were they, no one but Ramu mama and Sala maami from Penang. Sala maami brought some of her signature dish, crab masala along with her because when we were in Penang last month, Ganesan and I polished off the entire dish of crab masala she had made. Suprisingly we didn't eat the dish as well, because the crab was so yummy!!!! An important point to note is that no one else ate the crab except both of us because Nachi didn't come. But on Friday night, Nachi got to eat the delicious masala after Ganesan and me because his car tyre had a puncture and he came home only at 11.00 p.m. But we left a lot for him and there was even some more in the fridge. Then you can just imagine how much crab, Sala maami brought!!!!

On Sunday, Sajeera, one of Nachi's good friends came home to see the wedding albums. When we met her a few days earlier in a restaraunt and showed her the few pictures we had, she said "I have to come home and see all the albums". So there she was promptly on Sunday afternoon with us, viewing album after album patiently. Hopefully she didn't get too bored!!!!

After Sajeera left on Sunday evening, we went to Nachi's friend's house for Hari Raya open house. Though we did get lost trying to get there, we finally got there after going up and down each road a couple of times. This is also because Nachi's sense of direction is wonderful!!!! The food there was really good with a variety of dishes. At first I was a bit confused because I didn't know what went with what. But after a bit, I kind of got used to it and enjoyed the food.

From there Nachi and I went to Berjaya Times Square because we had to pick up a parcel someone had brought from India. Then we went to the mall, where the Diwali preperations had just begun after Raya was over. The mall is so huge that I would have got lost if Nachi wasn't there. I think even one day is not enough to go through the entire mall.

Since we had to kill somemore time and didn't have dessert, Nachi took me to one of his favourite restaraunts, Cafe Cafe. The interiors of the place are something one must definetely see, it is done up in a completely French style. It is a picture perfect setting, so I insisted we took a few snaps there because Nachi's new habit is to carry the digicam with us where ever we go. The reason for this is actually beacuse I was complaining that when I was at home, Daddy took so many pictues of me everytime I wore a saree and Nachi was not taking any pictures.

But after coming to Malaysia, I'm wearing so many sarees that its not a big deal anymore. When I was at home I wore a saree only once in a blue moon and it was such a big effort. And most important, I started wearing a saree on my own only the day after we got married!!!! Till then Mummy or Ayah were always around to do the needful.

Our first blog

Alagu and I have decided to keep a blog after marriage to let all our friends and family around the world know how we are getting on, and what we are upto. We have been procrastinating for the last month or so on getting this blog going. Since we have had 2 consecutive eventful weekends, it has acted as a great catalyst for us to publish our first post.

This blog was inspired by a friend of mine, Ashwin, http://nehanash.blogspot.com/ who did exactly the same thing after he got married. So thanks for the idea Ash. Just to let you know, you should'nt be expecting any pulitzer prize prose within these pages, and no deep thought provoking philosphies of the political situation of our country.....this blog is to document our new found life together, and to share our experiences with those closest to us. Please feel free to post any comments you may have!!

Last weekend was Hari Raya, or the end of the muslim fasting month. Typically in Malaysia we visit our muslim friends during this period, and eat a lot of authentic Malay food. This year amongst others, we went to Annuar's house. Annuar is a good friend of mine, he's an analyst at a foreign investment bank and Marianna his girlfriend is a talented local movie producer.

Last Monday was a public holiday because of Hari Raya, so Alagu, Ganesan and I decided to go to the temple of fine arts for Navarathari. However by the time Alagu got ready around 9pm, the temple had closed, we then tried 2 more places before giving up and settling for a milkshake and yummy moist chocolate cake at Delicious!!

Alagu looking very happy with her ice-cream, chocolate cake and milkshake!

We took a picture at the entrance of Delicious just before leaving. I think this is one of the better pictures we have taken over the past month, thanks to the photographer, Ganesan!

Sendil, Alagu's Chittappa, visited us this Friday night, and we had Thai food at Ayodhya in Damansara Heights. I think its one of the nicest looking Thai restaurants in Malaysia, although the prawn dish wasn't great, the rest of the food was good. There is an absolutely stunning water feature on the 1st floor, with a Ganesha sitting serenely in a pond full of Koi fish.

After dropping Sendil back at his hotel, Alagu had a craving for a favourite food group.....cookies and cream.....with extra chocolate sauce....

Yes the 2nd tub of double berry cheesecake is hers as well......(ok I'm kidding, it was mine!)

On Saturday we went to the Shah Alam Go-Kart track. We got a little lost trying to get there, but it was well worth the effort, we all had great fun. I have to say Sendil is quite the racing driver, while I was busy constantly spinning off the track, he was lapping us at lightening speed. Even Alagu, after a little apprehension got into the spirit of things and was zipping around the track, although they almost gave her a ticket for driving too slowly! ;-)

On the way back we went to the Brabus showroom at the corner of our road. There is a restaurant called Relish in the showroom.....all we could afford were the fries and milkshake....

Sendil and Ganesan trying to figure out how to raise the RM6 million needed to drive the car out of the show room...

Tonight, Selva a close friend of mine from school, had a small party to welcome Alagu to Malaysia at his brand new Indian restaurant, Spices of India at the brand spanking new mall opposite the JW Marriott on Bukit Bintang called the Pavillion. We really had a great time, and the food was great, I highly recommend you to check it out when your in the area.....
